About Expressive Arts Therapy

Art is available to everyone. You do not need to be a professional artist to participate in expressive arts therapy. The importance is in the creative process and not the final product. You create art every day without even thinking about it. The dinner you made last night, the poem you created for English Lit, the story you conjured up for your children at bedtime. It’s all art. And it’s our natural way of being in the world.

As children, art was our way of exploring and making sense of our surroundings. Together in therapy, we will use the arts in conjunction with other therapeutic approaches to create an inviting and comfortable space for you to:

  • Challenge negative thoughts

  • Work through complex emotions and traumatic experiences

  • Seek growth and clarity in your life

  • Learn how to cope with difficult situations

This work is powerful and exciting!

In expressive arts therapy the arts are used as a way to bring the unconscious into the conscious. We externalize emotions, make meaning of them, and process them together.

As a trained Expressive Arts Therapist, I use a combination of art modalities depending on your particular needs.

It’s the utilization of multiple art modalities that makes the expressive arts such an effective treatment, bringing a uniqueness and flexibility to the therapy session.
